The Basics About Buying A Netbook

Posted by Ramesh Sunday, February 12, 2012

They are small, nifty and surprisingly fast for their size. A netbook is different from your standard notebook, in that it is smaller, more compact and its screen size is on average 10 inches. However, if you are planning to use it for surfing the Internet, chatting or typing a few letters now and again, then this type of computer is almost a must-have.

For surfing the Internet, chatting and normal typing you would have in the office; this lightweight computer can really become indispensable. It has a 1.666Ghz CPU, 160-400GB hard drive and a 1-2GB RAM. They also have some of the features that are to be found on notebooks that makes them even more popular with many people.

As with the difference in display, their keyboard size is also smaller and more compact. However, it is easy to use and very comfortable to type on. The size of the keyboard is thus not an issue because your fingers will find the keys just as naturally as they would on a notebook or desktop keyboard.

Most netbook keyboards have a low profile island design that makes typing a breeze. This means that their keys are strategically placed to ensure fewer errors and faster typing. Wrist stain will thus be kept to the minimum if any.

Today's models automatically feature mega pixel webcams, graphic cards, wireless modems, blue tooth technology and most importantly, have a battery life ranging between 6-12 hours. This is the ultimate in portable computers by far. The only drawback is that they do not have an optical device, so you will not be able to play your CDs or DVDs.

However, the good news is that the computers have enough USB ports so that you are able to plug in an external device that can play DVDs and CDs or listen to your MP3 songs. Keep in mind that part of its popularity is that it is compact, very light and portable. For this reason, the manufacturers opted not to install an optical device that will add extra weight to the netbook.

Their prices will naturally vary from supplier to supplier, so you need to shop around a bit to find the one that will suit your budget. Their price range can be from $300 to $500. Look out for special offers on netbooks on the Internet, and you might even find one at an online auction. With all this information at hand, you are able to make an intelligent decision. The only other thing you need to consider is what color you want, because they come in white, black, gold and even pink to name a few.
